17 Million Malaysians’ MyKad Data Allegedly Leaked Online

However, the Malaysian government has reported that there have been no incidents of identity card or MyKad data leakage.

Recently, @stealthmole_int tweeted that the data of 17 million Malaysian citizens’ MyKad has been compromised and is reportedly being sold on the dark web.

The hacker also publicly shared samples of Malaysian ID cards on the dark web. The dark web is a concealed segment of the internet that is not indexed by standard search engines and can be accessed via specialised browsers such as Tor.

It’s a hub for both lawful and unlawful activities, providing anonymity but also presenting dangers such as scams and illegal content.

The National Cyber Security Agency (NACSA) is actively investigating the matter and will issue updates as further details emerge.

Meanwhile, they advise the public to refrain from circulating unverified reports and to seek information solely from official sources.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail stated that there have been no reports of identity card or MyKad data breaches.

He urged the public to be cautious with the spread of unverified information. Furthermore, he reassured that the government is committed to protecting the integrity of the citizens’ data.
