The Apple Watch Ultra 3 (AWU3) is reported to feature satellite messaging, allowing text communication without the need for cellular or Wi-Fi connections, relying solely on satellite technology.
Bloomberg reported that the AWU3 may also introduce blood pressure monitoring, a feature initially expected in 2023, but now anticipated for the following year.
These innovations seem to be Apple’s strategy to boost smartwatch sales, which have recently experienced a downturn.
The company’s revenue from its watch segment has seen a decline over the last two years due to a decrease in consumer upgrades.
Apple is hopeful that the addition of satellite messaging and potentially blood pressure monitoring will provide compelling reasons for customers to upgrade.
Furthermore, some Apple Watch models are expected to undergo a change next year, transitioning from Intel to MediaTek modems.
This shift, if confirmed, would mark Apple’s first major purchase from MediaTek, with the new modems supporting 5G Redcap, a service designed for wearables and devices that do not demand high-speed data connections.
