Some time ago, Nintendo officially confirmed the release of a successor to the Switch, but to date, the renowned Japanese video game company has not unveiled the handheld console.
A Redditor, “NextHandheld,” claims to have seen the final version of the new Nintendo Switch 2, providing numerous details about the forthcoming console.
The Redditor alleged that Nintendo plans to announce the Switch 2 in January 2025. The logo will resemble the original Switch’s, but with a “2” added to the side.
The Joy-Cons are expected to feature Hall Effect sticks, which should help minimise the joystick drift issues that have affected the Switch.
The game cartridges will reportedly be the same as those for the first Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo has officially confirmed backward compatibility.
The Switch 2 is said to include an LCD screen rather than OLED, although Nintendo may release an OLED model later, similar to what was done with the original Switch.
The buttons and sticks on the new Switch are purportedly slightly larger than those on the current model, including the ZL and ZR buttons.
Furthermore, the leak suggests that the dock will have the same connections as the Switch OLED model but will be slightly larger and curved, displaying more of the Switch 2’s screen.
Finally, it’s highly probable that the Nintendo Switch 2 will debut with Mario Kart 9, hinting at the possibility of a special edition of the console.
