TikTok might be cooking up a whole new app just for the U.S.—apparently to dodge a potential ban by following new laws that say it either has to sell its U.S. business or get banned.
According to The Information, the new app drops 5 September, and if you’re a TikTok user in the States, you’ll have to switch over to keep scrolling. The current version will get yanked from U.S. app stores once the new one launches, and then it’ll fully shut down by March 2026.
Meanwhile, Trump just dropped a teaser that “a group of very wealthy people” are swooping in to buy TikTok’s U.S. ops from ByteDance (the Chinese company that owns it). No names yet, but he says we’ll find out later this month.
The whole deal might need an approval from the China’s government, but they probably won’t approve it following Trump’s announcements of steep tariffs on Chinese goods.
