The most interesting device that came out of Acer’s press conference at IFA 2024 was a gaming laptop with a built-in controller called “Project DualPlay“.
Project DualPlay integrates a unique feature into its Predator gaming laptop: a cutout under the keyboard designed to house a custom gaming controller face-down.
This controller’s rear side serves as the laptop’s trackpad. With a press of a button atop the keyboard, the controller is released, and two 5W speakers emerge from the laptop’s sides. The controller can also split into two separate gamepads, similar to the Nintendo Switch design.
Acer promotes Project DualPlay as enabling a second player to join in as effortlessly as detaching the controller for multiplayer games such as Street Fighter 6.
Rather than carrying a separate controller that takes up additional space in your bag, this innovative gaming laptop concept does away with that.
While Project DualPlay remains a concept at present, there’s always the possibility that Acer may bring it to market in the future.
