Qualcomm is gearing up to announce its next flagship smartphone chipset in September, but that might not be the only release they have in store.
According to well-known Chinese leaker Digital Chat Station (DCS), the company is also rumoured to be working on another high-performance chipset that could rival last year’s Snapdragon 8 Elite.
This mystery chip is said to pack an all-big-core CPU setup using Qualcomm’s custom-developed cores, similar to the original 8 Elite. However, it’ll be built on a newer manufacturing process and borrow some of the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2’s specs. That means better efficiency and potentially some upgraded features.
Interestingly, this isn’t going to be Snapdragon 8s Gen 5, it’s actually positioned higher than that but still a notch below the 8 Elite 2. Nobody’s sure what Qualcomm will name it, though some are guessing it could be called the Snapdragon 8 Plus. Performance-wise, it sounds like a minor but noticeable upgrade over the first-gen 8 Elite.
DCS also mentioned that Oppo, OnePlus, and Vivo are expected to use this chip in upcoming devices. And here’s a fun detail, some of these phones might come with massive batteries, reaching up to 8,000mAh!
