Razer is having a bit of a nostalgia trip, relaunching what they call the world’s first proper gaming mouse from over a quarter-century ago.
Dubbed the Boomslang 20th Anniversary Edition, it keeps the original’s distinctive symmetrical, ambidextrous shape. But don’t be fooled by the retro look, the old tracking ball has been swapped for a cutting-edge 45,000 DPI optical sensor, bringing it firmly into the modern era.

This time, the Boomslang goes completely wireless, boasting an 8,000Hz polling rate that Razer promises delivers near-instant responsiveness. It charges via an included dock, which itself sports a matching translucent shell that’s a nice callback to the old days.
The main buttons are now wrapped in synthetic leather for better grip, and they sit atop Razer’s Gen-4 optical switches, rated for a hefty 100 million clicks. You get eight buttons in total, all reprogrammable through Razer Synapse.

And naturally, it wouldn’t be a Razer mouse without some RGB flair. The underside features 9-zone Chroma lighting, which you can customise or sync with effects in over 300 games.

This release marks twenty years since Razer was founded as a company. It’s a proper collector’s piece, with only 1,337 units being made. Pricing and a specific release date are still under wraps.
