Maybank Set To Replace MAE App With A New Digital Banking App

The current MAE app is only around 5 plus years old.

UPDATE: Maybank says they will not replace the app but will upgrade the existing MAE app instead, according to Lowyat.net.

Maybank is getting ready to replace its current MAE app. While the MAE app has only been around since October 2020, the bank is already looking toward the next generation of mobile banking.

They are also investing a massive RM10 billion to technology over the next five years. A huge chunk of that investment is going into AI, with the aim of modernising their regional applications and backend systems. The idea is to build a setup that is fast and agile, allowing them to roll out new features and services far more quickly than they can right now.

It is also an internal play, as the bank plans to use these new technologies to upskill its workforce and improve how they work behind the scenes. The bank says the development process is shifting from a market-by-market approach to a broader regional focus. This means new tools will be designed for the entire group from the start, and it looks like Indonesia might actually be the first to see the new rollout, followed by Malaysia and Singapore.

As for when we can actually download the new app, there is no official date on the calendar just yet. However, Maybank’s president and group CEO, Datuk Seri Khairussaleh Ramli, has confirmed that retail-focused apps are already in the works. He mentioned that we should expect more updates later this year and hinted that the launch should happen sooner rather than later, though he is understandably keen not to overpromise before everything is ready.
