Apple has finally refreshed the AirPods Max, and the headline news is the jump to the H2 chip.
This brings the flagship over-ears in line with the rest of the pro lineup, offering what Apple says is 1.5 times better active noise cancelling than the original pair. If you have been waiting since 2020 for a reason to upgrade, this might be it, especially with the addition of clever features like adaptive audio and conversation awareness that automatically dips your volume when you start chatting to someone.
On the audio side, there is a new high-dynamic range amplifier designed to make your music sound even cleaner. You are also getting an upgrade to Bluetooth 5.3 and a rather handy camera remote feature that lets you use the digital crown as a shutter button for your iPhone.

For those who prefer a wired connection, the USB-C port does double duty, handling both charging and 24-bit, 48kHz lossless audio for a high-fidelity listening experience.
Design-wise, things are pretty much identical to the first generation, which is either a win for fans of the aesthetic or a bit of a missed opportunity for a design overhaul.
The battery life is still sitting at 20 hours with ANC enabled, which is respectable but hasn’t moved the needle much.
