Huawei Unveils Watch GT 5 Series And Watch D2

The Watch GT 5 now offers a Pro version featuring a titanium body, while the D2 is specialised for blood pressure monitoring.

Huawei unveiled a total of five new smartwatches at an event in Barcelona, Spain, yesterday. Unlike last year’s Watch GT 4, which was only available with a stainless steel body, this generation’s GT watches include a titanium version featuring a lightweight body.

Additionally, the company released a second generation of Watch D for those seeking dependable blood pressure measurements.

The Huawei Watch GT 5 comes in two sizes, 41mm and 46mm, and the OLED screen sizes are 1.32-inch for the smaller version and 1.43-inch for the larger one.

Made from 316L stainless steel, the watches are now slimmer. The 41mm version, for example, is 0.3mm thinner than its GT 4 predecessor. You can choose from a variety of wrist straps, including metal, leather, plastic, and woven options.

For the 46mm model, the standout colour is Blue, inspired by the ocean. It also keeps the graduated bezel, while the 41mm model has dropped it to reduce overall dimensions. The 46mm version is also available in Black and Brown. While the 41mm is available in Brown, Blue, and White.

Huawei claims the GT 5 series features an upgraded antenna and algorithm, boosting positioning performance—route accuracy has improved by 40%, while distance and pace accuracy are up by 30% and 20%, respectively.

Huawei’s TruSense system includes heart rate and blood oxygen monitoring, along with sleep tracking. The Sleep Breathing Awareness feature from the GT 4 series now includes Sleep Apnea Detection.

The watches also support women’s health tracking and can now record emotions to help track emotional well-being.

The latest GT5 model introduces a full keyboard input, larger fonts, and text-to-speech features compatible with popular apps like WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook Messenger, Signal, and Telegram. You can also make Bluetooth calls with it.

Huawei claims the GT 5 46mm version has a 14-day battery life for maximum usage, 9-day battery life for regular usage, and 5-day battery life with Always On Display (AOD) enabled.

While the 41mm version has a 7-day battery life for maximum usage, 5-day battery life for regular usage, and 3-day battery life with AOD enabled.

The Huawei Watch GT 5 Pro comes in two sizes, 42mm and 46mm, with titanium bodies for both models. The smaller 42mm version also integrates ceramics into its body and strap, while the larger model offers a choice between a titanium or fluoroelastomer strap. Both versions feature sapphire glass displays for added durability.

A key feature of the GT 5 Pro models is the ECG function, which takes 30 seconds to generate ECG waveforms.

These watches also focus on enhanced running and cycling experiences, with improved positioning accuracy. They support offline maps with route previews, displaying altitude changes and terrain details. Real-time directions, including segment-based navigation and off-course alerts, are also available.

For trail running, the offline maps help guide users through complex cross-country routes. The watch integrates with Komoot for those familiar with its route-planning features. After a run, the watch provides a Running Form Analysis, measuring metrics such as ground contact time, vertical oscillation, and balance.

The Pro models also introduce a Free Diving mode, offering water resistance down to 40 meters (130 feet), with depth tracking and reminders. The watches carry an IP69K rating (same goes for GT 5), making them resistant to hot water jets, and a special coating protects them from salt spray corrosion.

The Pros also come with improved mapping features, including topographic maps with contour lines at 10-meter intervals.

The GT5 Pro model also has a full keyboard input, larger fonts, text-to-speech features, and Bluetooth.

Battery life varies by size: the smaller 41mm and 42mm models last 5 days with AOD enabled and up to 7 days with regular use, while the larger 46mm models last 9 days with AOD and up to 14 days with regular use. The Pro models support wireless charging and can be fully charged in 60 minutes.

Huawei Watch D2

The Huawei Watch D2 is a specialised timepiece featuring an inflatable wrist strap, similar to a blood pressure cuff, providing more accurate measurements than watches with optical sensors.

The cuff inflates periodically throughout the day and night. Additionally, the D2 includes an optical sensor for heart rate monitoring, which conserves battery life and avoids the discomfort of cuff inflation. It also boasts an ECG and skin temperature sensors.

Sporting a rectangular 1.82” OLED display with a resolution of 408 x 480 pixels, the D2’s screen is larger than the 1.64” display of its predecessor, the original Watch D. The dimensions of the watch are 48 x 38 x 13.3mm, weighs 85 grams, and it’s available in Black and Gold.

Pricing and Availability

As of this writing, Huawei has not disclosed the local pricing. However, the company is set to launch the watches on 26 September in Malaysia. If you are interested, you can place your pre-order on Huawei Malaysia’s website.
