A leaker claims that Sony is developing two System-on-Chip (SoC) designs for the PlayStation 6. This information comes from KeplerL2, who commented on the NEOgaf forums during discussions about the PlayStation 6’s price.
Kepler, known for accurately reporting on hardware chips, mentioned that two SoCs are being developed, though their specific roles in the console remain unclear, according to Insider Gaming.
“There’s two SoCs in development for next-gen, idk if it’s a Series X/S situation or home console + handheld, but probably one of them will be affordable at least,” Kepler said.
Rumours suggest that the next-generation Xbox may include both a main console and a handheld version, leading to speculation that PlayStation could be exploring a similar approach.
The handheld gaming market has surged in recent years, and PlayStation has seen success with the PlayStation Portal, an accessory for the PS5. Therefore, it’s possible that PlayStation might be considering a dedicated handheld device.
Tom Henderson of Insider Gaming, known for his reliability for leaking hardware and gaming news, mentioned that he could not confirm the authenticity of the rumour. However, he acknowledged that Kepler is a credible source and his statements merit consideration.
