Alongside the latest generation of Galaxy Z foldable smartphones, Samsung has expanded its wearable line-up with the launch of the Galaxy Watch Ultra2 and the Galaxy Watch9.
Galaxy Watch Ultra2
The flagship Galaxy Watch Ultra2 introduces significant hardware upgrades, most notably featuring the largest battery and brightest screen ever fitted to a Galaxy smartwatch. Packing a massive 800mAh battery compared to the 590mAh capacity of the original model, it promises substantially longer endurance.
Its 47mm shock-resistant titanium casing adopts a squircle silhouette housing a circular 1.52-inch OLED panel with a resolution of 498 by 498 pixels. The screen reaches an extraordinary peak brightness of 5,000 nits, ensuring complete legibility under direct sunlight.
Despite the battery increase, the Ultra2 manages to be 12% slimmer than its predecessor, measuring 10.7mm in thickness down from 12.1mm. While the standalone chassis retains a weight of 61.5 grams, new lighter and softer watch straps mean the total package weighs slightly less on the wrist.
Under the hood, the Ultra2 is driven by the Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear Elite, a 3nm chipset featuring a 5-core CPU. This processor is paired with 2GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage, running One UI 9 Watch straight out of the box. Connectivity options are extensive, including dual-frequency L1+L5 GPS, LTE, Bluetooth 6.0, dual-band Wi-Fi, and NFC.
Durability is another key highlight of the Ultra2. Beyond its IP69K rating for high-pressure hot water resistance and a 10 ATM depth rating, the smartwatch carries EN13319 certification, making it a genuine dive computer.
Samsung has collaborated with scuba brand Mares to develop a dedicated Diving application set to launch later in the year, which will provide real-time tracking for ascent and descent speeds alongside safe dive limit warnings.
Galaxy Watch9
Alongside the rugged flagship, the mainstream Galaxy Watch9 arrives in two sizes featuring refined squircle aluminium bodies. The smaller model measures 42.7 by 40.4mm, while the larger variant comes in at 46.0 by 43.7mm. Both options retain an 8.6mm thickness and weigh 31.5 grams and 43.0 grams respectively, matching the dimensions of the outgoing Watch8 generation.
The Watch9 displays reach up to 3,000 nits of peak brightness and are protected by durable sapphire crystal. The 40mm version houses a 1.34-inch screen with a 438 by 438 pixel resolution, whereas the 44mm variant features a 1.47-inch display at 480 by 480 pixels. Water resistance is rated at IP68 and 5 ATM, making both sizes suitable for swimming, though they lack the specialized deep-sea diving capabilities of the Ultra2.
Battery capacity on the 40mm Watch9 gets a welcome 20% increase to 390mAh, up from 325mAh. The 44mm model sees a modest bump to 445mAh. The Watch9 lineup uses the same Snapdragon Wear Elite processor and 2GB memory configuration as the Ultra2 alongside identical connectivity hardware, though internal storage is halved to 32GB.
Pricing and Availability
For the Malaysian market, the Galaxy Watch Ultra2 is priced at RM3,399 for the 47mm LTE edition.
The standard Galaxy Watch9 starts at RM1,499 for the 40mm Bluetooth model, rising to RM1,799 for the LTE version. The 44mm Galaxy Watch9 is priced at RM1,599 for Bluetooth connectivity and RM1,899 for LTE capability.
