MSI has just pulled the curtain back on the Pro Max OLED 271UPJW12, calling it the world’s very first 27-inch 4K 120Hz monitor powered by TCL CSOT’s inkjet-printed OLED tech.
Up until now, LG and Samsung have held a complete monopoly on the OLED monitor panel market, so MSI bringing a new manufacturer into the fold is a massive deal for OLED monitor enthusiasts.
Traditional OLED manufacturing relies on an evaporation process that deposits organic materials through a fine metal mask, leading to significant material waste and lower yields due to dust contamination during mask changes. In contrast, inkjet OLED printing offers a precise, mask-free alternative that minimises stray particles and contamination, significantly boosting production yields and material efficiency.
This new panel rocks a vertical RGB stripe pixel layout, which MSI claims completely gets rid of those annoying colour fringing issues around text and fine lines. That means crisp, sharp text that should make reading and working a breeze.
On the colour front, it covers 99% of the DCI-P3 gamut with a Delta E score under 2, boasts VESA DisplayHDR True Black 500 certification, and hits a peak brightness of 1,000 nits. With 4K resolution and a pixel density of 164ppi, it is built to handle everything from serious design work to intense gaming session.
To keep burn-in at bay, MSI has baked in its new OLED Auto Care system, which it pitches as the first totally seamless OLED protection feature. It uses real-time data tracking to manage screen wear in the background, saving you from those frustrating pop-up warnings that force you to pause your game for a pixel refresh.
If you like connecting multiple devices, you will appreciate the built-in KVM switch, side-by-side display modes, and a USB-C port with 15W power delivery. The stand is fully adjustable, letting you tweak height, tilt, swivel, and pivot to get your ideal setup.
It is also easy on the eyes, meeting Eyesafe 3.0 and Circadian Protection standards to dial down blue light emissions and help protect your sleep schedule, backed by TUV certifications for flicker-free viewing.
Rounding things off is an upgraded anti-glare finish that bumps the surface hardness up to 3H. MSI reckons this makes it two and a half times more scratch-resistant while keeping annoying room reflections to a minimum.
There are plenty of customizable SDR and HDR modes to play with too, though MSI is keeping tight-lipped about the price and release date for now.
