Rockstar Games Partners With Netflix For Bizarre GTA 6 Gameplay Trailer Launch

It will be exclusive to Netflix for six hours before appearing on YouTube and social media.

Most game companies drop their new trailers straight onto YouTube and social media the second they are ready, letting everyone watch for free without any hassle. Rockstar Games, however, is doing something a bit odd with the upcoming gameplay look for Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6).

Instead of the usual release, Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look is going to stream exclusively on Netflix first. It hits the platform on 27 August at 3pm Eastern Time (28 August, 3am local time) which means you will need an active subscription to catch the initial broadcast.

The exclusive window does not last long, though. Netflix gets a six-hour head start before the trailer officially lands on YouTube and social channels at 9pm Eastern Time on the same day (9am local time).

But it feels like a completely pointless stunt because as soon as the video goes live, viewers are going to rip the footage off Netflix and reupload it across the internet anyway, making the exclusivity instantly redundant.

GTA 6 will be launching on the PlayStation 5 consoles and Xbox Series X/S on 19 November 2026.
