Google has finally dropped their own take on Apple’s NameDrop, dubbed Tap to Share.
For now, it is rolling out to Pixel models from the Pixel 6 onwards, as well as Samsung’s latest Galaxy Z Fold8, Fold8 Ultra, and Flip8. Google has promised to bring more devices into the fold by the end of the year.
Unsurprisingly, it works by simply tapping two compatible phones together. Once you do, you can seamlessly pass along whatever you like, whether that is contact details, photos, or videos.
If you want to swap contact info, just head to your home screen and bring the phones close together. It triggers an instant two-way exchange, simple as that. You still get full control over what gets sent, so you can pick which fields in your contact card to share, or even set it to only receive the other person’s details without sharing your own.
Sharing media is just as easy. Open the share sheet on your phone, bring the two devices together, and your photos or videos will be on their way. If it is not your thing, you can easily switch off Tap to Share whenever you like by heading into your settings menu under Google, Quick Share, and then Tap to Share.
