WhatsApp has just rolled out a few enhanced security updates. To start with, two-step verification is getting a proper upgrade. Instead of relying on a simple six-digit PIN like before, you can now use a full password. That means you can throw in letters, numbers, and special characters to make your account much harder to crack.
There are also some nice improvements coming to call safety. If you get a call from an unknown number, WhatsApp will show you a bit more context about who is ringing, such as their location or any shared groups you might have. It should make it easier to spot scammers before you answer, though the catch is that Android users get this first while iPhone users will have to wait a bit longer.
Finally, WhatsApp is pushing hard for everyone to switch to passkeys. These allow you to log in using your fingerprint, face scanning, or standard screen lock code. They reckon it is the quickest and safest way to prove your identity without messing around with SMS codes or PINs. You can set it up straight away by heading to Settings, then Account, and selecting Passkeys.
