WhatsApp has rolled out a new feature aimed at flagging potential scam messages before you fall for them.
Spotted by WABetaInfo, the Scam Alert tool is currently rolling out to select Android users on WhatsApp’s beta programme. It works in the background to warn you if a message from an unknown number looks suspicious, all without letting the sender know that the safety feature has been triggered.
If you happen to get one of these warnings, you will have the choice to either mark the sender as trusted or instantly block and report them. Choosing to trust the chat also gives you the option to forward the last five messages to WhatsApp, which helps the team fine-tune the system and improve its accuracy for everyone else.
This feature is not switched on by default. To start using it, you will need to head into your Android settings under the Account menu and toggle it on manually.
