Huawei has just refreshed its tri-fold foldable with the launch of the Mate XT 2 Ultimate Design. The new model brings a fresh look, extra processing power, and the latest HarmonyOS 7 software
Up front, you get a 6.5-inch OLED cover display running at Full-HD+ with a 120Hz refresh rate and a massive peak brightness of 6,500 nits. Unfold the device completely and you are looking at a huge 10.2-inch 3K OLED screen with a 90Hz refresh rate. Interestingly, the main internal display incorporates a built-in hardware privacy screen similar to what Samsung introduced on the Galaxy S26 Ultra.
The phone is driven by the new Kirin 9050 Pro processor, which promises a performance boost of over 42% compared to the original Mate XT silicon, alongside upgraded NPU and GPU hardware.
Huawei has also reshuffled the rear camera module, moving it over to the centre panel rather than the side. The triple array features a 50MP main shooter with an advanced LOFIC sensor, a 50MP periscope telephoto lens offering 3.5x optical zoom, a 40MP ultra-wide camera, and a third-generation Red Maple colour sensor to keep skin tones and scenes looking natural. Front-facing duties are handled by a pair of 8MP selfie cameras, with one built into the outer screen and another on the inside panel.
Keeping everything running is a 5,600mAh battery that supports 66W wired charging and 50W wireless top-ups. Structural upgrades include a redesigned G-shaped hinge and an IP58/IP59 rating for improved element protection, while the outer display gets tougher basalt glass to better withstand drops and scratches.
Huawei has integrated a side-mounted fingerprint scanner alongside touch-sensitive edge buttons capable of taking ECG readings. Despite all those moving parts, the handset measures just 3.5mm thick when completely opened and 12.3mm when folded shut, weighing in at 299g with full support for the M-Pen 3 stylus.
On the connectivity front, the device covers all the bases with 5G, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0 LE, satellite messaging, NFC, and a USB 3.1 Type-C port.
Prices in China kick off at CNY19,999 (~RM12,051) for the baseline model with 16GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, stretching up to CNY29,999 (~RM18,077) for a top-spec 2TB special edition bundle that includes the stylus.
As expected with these ultra-premium Huawei foldables, there is no word yet on whether this model will officially launch in international markets.
