Phone Stolen? Google’s New Features Help Secure Your Data

Theft Detection Lock, Offline Device Lock, and Remote Lock are the three new security features coming to your Android devices.

Google is reportedly rolling out a new security feature update to some Android phones, introducing anti-theft functionalities such as Theft Detection Lock, Offline Device Lock, and Remote Lock.

Mishaal Rahman on Threads reports that the Theft Detection Lock utilises AI and the device’s sensors to detect motions commonly associated with theft, such as someone snatching the phone from your hand and running away.

It can also recognise motions indicative of a bike or car theft. The phone will automatically lock, blocking all access to apps and data.

Meanwhile, the Offline Device Lock feature secures your device when a thief attempts to keep your phone disconnected for extended periods.

The Remote Lock feature enables you to lock your phone remotely using just your phone number, especially useful if Find My Device is turned off or if you’re unable to log into your Google account.

Mishaal mentioned that Google announced the broader rollout of the final versions of these features would occur this year, but the tech giant didn’t say for which Android devices.
