Game Freak Hacked: Pokémon Games Developer Suffers Major Cyberattack

Employee data, unannounced games, game source codes, and various other types of data have been leaked.

Game Freak, the primary developer behind the iconic Pokémon franchise, has reportedly suffered a substantial hack.

Consequently, a wealth of source code, confidential information, and other behind-the-scenes data has begun to surface online, according to Nintendo Everything.

So far, the source code for Pokémon HeartGold / SoulSilver and Black 2 / White 2 has emerged, captivating the Pokémon community.

Intriguing codenames have also come to light, including “Gaia” for Generation 10. This new generation is said to be developed for a platform dubbed “Ounce,” potentially confirming the codename for the anticipated Switch 2.

Moreover, the project codenamed “Ikkaku” is speculated to be Pokémon Legends: Z-A. Another fascinating codename, “Synapse,” has surfaced.

Although its specifics are uncertain, the report suggest it could be an unreleased multiplayer battle title, possibly a PvP or MMO game. ILCA, known for their work on Pokémon Brilliant Diamond / Shining Pearl, is reportedly involved in this mysterious project.

Game Freak confirmed the leak, stating that a third party gained unauthorised access to a server in August 2024, and other than games-related data, the hacker also managed to get hold of data from both former and current employees, including names and email addresses.
