Apple has unveiled the new iPad Mini (2024) through a press release. The latest iPad Mini boasts minor upgrades, with the most significant being the Apple A17 Pro chip, first introduced in last year’s iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max models.
While the iPad Mini employs the same chip, its GPU cores have been reduced to five, in contrast to the six GPU cores found in the A17 Pro of the iPhone 15 Pro.
The device now starts with 128GB of storage, up from the previous 64GB, and features enhanced connectivity options including Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, a faster USB Type-C 3.1 Gen2 port, and it’s also compatible with the Apple Pencil Pro stylus
Apple also introduced two new colours: Blue and Purple, alongside the existing Starlight, and Space Gray options.
Remaining specifications mirror the previous model, with an 8.3-inch Liquid Retina IPS LCD at a resolution of 1,488 x 2,266 pixels, a 3:2 aspect ratio, and the refresh rate remains at 60Hz.
The dual 12MP cameras are retained but benefit from the enhanced ISP of the A17 Pro chip, offering Smart HDR 4.
The iPad mini continues to feature Touch ID for secure authentication and purchases, along with the same 19.3-watt-hour battery, which Apple claims can deliver up to 10 hours of web browsing or video playback over Wi-Fi.
Unlike the iPhone, the retail package for the iPad mini includes a 20W USB-C power adapter.
The iPad Mini is set to gain Apple Intelligence capabilities with the phased introduction of iPadOS 18.1, scheduled for later this month.
