AI Speed Cameras To Launch Trial On Malaysian Highways In June 2025

The Automated Awareness Safety System (AWAS) will monitor two routes: Genting Sempah Tunnel to Gombak Rest Stop and Senawang Toll Plaza to Simpang Ampat Toll Plaza (Alor Gajah).

The new point-to-point speed tracking system under AWAS (Automated Awareness Safety System) is set to start trial runs by June.

Instead of the old fixed cameras, this AI-powered system will calculate travel time and distance to catch speedsters, according to NST.

It’ll cover two test routes:

  • Genting Sempah tunnel → Gombak Rest Stop
  • Senawang Toll Plaza → Simpang Ampat Toll Plaza (Alor Gajah)

Plus, it’ll be set up in high-risk zones, like the stretch from Menora Tunnel to Sungai Perak Rest Stop.

Transport Ministry secretary-general Datuk Jana Santhiran Muniayan said that if drivers reach toll plazas too fast, they’ll be flagged for speeding.
