Alert Slider Out, Customisable Button In: OnePlus Makes A Major Design Change

The company's CEO, Pete Lau, said that future OnePlus models are getting a button similar to the iPhone's Action Button.

In the Android ecosystem, OnePlus phones have long been distinguished by their unique Alert Slider. However, the company has now decided to phase out this iconic feature in future devices.

In a recent post on the OnePlus community forums, Pete Lau, CEO of OnePlus, confirmed that the Alert Slider will no longer be included in upcoming models.

This switch, which allows users to quickly toggle between ringer modes such as silent, vibrate, and sound, has been a staple on nearly every OnePlus device since the OnePlus 2 launched in 2015.

The only exception to this was the OnePlus 10T, which lacked the Alert Slider, but the feature was promptly reintroduced with the OnePlus 11 just a few months later.

Lau explained that “this is a change for the better,” as the Alert Slider will be replaced by a new customisable button akin to iPhone’s Action Button.

According to the post, this button will allow them to “better utilise the device’s space, explore new layouts, and make structural improvements while keeping performance top-notch.”

No specific timeline was provided for when this change will take effect, but OnePlus is reportedly planning to release OnePlus 13T, which is expected to launch in the coming months.

The OnePlus 13T is rumoured to boast a 6.3-inch display, a Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, a dual rear camera setup, and a robust 6,000mAh battery. It might be the first device to feature this new customisable button.
