Android Users Can Now Share Files To iPhone Via Quick Share QR codes

Android and iPhone users don't have to download an app for this work.

Google is finally making it a bit easier to bridge the divide between Android and iOS with a handy new update to Quick Share.

If you have ever tried sending a file from your Android phone to an iPhone, you will know is a bit of a hassle and direct AirDrop compatibility is only available to a handful of Android phones. Luckily, this new QR code-based method steps in as a simple alternative, letting iPhone users just scan a code to quickly grab your shared files.

The way it works behind the scenes is pretty straightforward. When the iPhone user scans the QR code using their standard Camera app, the selected files are securely uploaded to the cloud and delivered through a private download link.

Security-wise, Google has ensured everything is properly locked down. The transferred files are protected with end-to-end encryption and will only hang around for up to 24 hours before expiring. The company also notes that the generated link cannot be shared with anyone else, keeping your data safe.

The feature is starting to roll out to Android devices now and should be fully available by the end of June 2026.
