To mark the 30th anniversary of the original PlayStation, which first arrived in 1994, the Hong Kong watchmaker Anicorn has dropped a rather special limited-edition mechanical watch.
It’s a collector’s piece, with only 600 units being made, each priced at around USD780 (~RM3,155). The case is crafted from angular 316L stainless steel, finished in that distinctive soft grey colour that will look instantly familiar to anyone who owned the PS1. It wears at a fairly substantial 43mm by 48mm, while staying surprisingly slim at just under 12mm thick.

Inside, you’ll find a Miyota 9039 automatic movement with a 42-hour power reserve. The back is fitted with a sapphire crystal window, so you can see the mechanism at work, and it’s engraved with the watch’s individual edition number.
For the specs, it comes with a sapphire crystal up front, is water resistant to 50 metres, and is fitted with a grey FKM rubber strap printed with those classic PlayStation symbols. The whole package is presented in a metal case inspired by vintage PlayStation hardware, and includes a lovely extra: a ‘Memory Capsule’ shaped like a PS1 memory card. It contains an NFC chip that links to a digital space where you can store personal notes or memories.
If the mechanical version is a bit of an investment, Anicorn has also created a more accessible and non-limited quartz model called the Play Symbol.

Available in ‘Dark Mode’ and ‘Light Mode’, these will set you back about USD250 each (~RM1,011). The fun bit here is the dial, which is printed with PlayStation’s iconic geometric symbols – give the watch a little shake and they’ll slide playfully around the face.
