Apple iOS 26.4 Release: New Features, Big Security Fixes, & Everything You Need To Know

This big update comes with new emojis, a new AI feature in Apple Music, better keyboard accuracy when typing and more.

Apple has just dropped the latest version of iOS 26, and version 26.4 is a absolute unit of an update. If you are rocking an iPhone 16e like I am, prepare for a hefty 14.2GB download. It is packed with new features and some new additions.

The headline act is definitely Playlist Playground in Apple Music. It is exactly what you would expect from an AI playlist generator; you just feed it a prompt based on your current mood, activity, or some obscure vibe, and it does the heavy lifting for you. Alongside that, there is a new Ambient Music widget that lets you quickly jump into Apple-curated tracks for sleeping, chilling out, or getting some work done. It is a nice touch for those of us who struggle to find the right background noise for our day.

If you are a fan of expressing yourself through tiny icons, there are some fun new emojis to play with. You can now send a trombone, a treasure chest, or a slightly terrifying distorted face. There is also a hairy creature, a classic cartoon-style fight cloud, an orca, a landslide, and a ballet dancer. On the accessibility front, a new setting helps reduce bright flashes when you are tapping buttons, which is a thoughtful addition for anyone sensitive to light.

The Podcasts app has finally gained native video support with HTTP Live Streaming (HLS) streaming, making the experience much smoother.

The Health app has tweaked its sleep tracking to show your average bedtime over the last fortnight, which is great for spotting when your routine starts to slip. Security is also getting a boost with Stolen Device Protection now being switched on by default. This means you will need to use biometric authentication for things like viewing passwords or turning off Lost Mode, making it much harder for thieves to get into your digital life.

There are plenty of smaller quality-of-life improvements tucked away too. Control Centre now supports offline song recognition, and Apple Music is showing off nearby concert suggestions and full-page album artwork. If you use Freeform for creative projects, you will be happy to see Apple Creator Studio support. Perhaps most important for all iPhone users, they have finally squashed that annoying keyboard bug that was causing constant typos.

Even if none of these shiny new features grab you, the update fixes over 35 security vulnerabilities across Safari, Messages, and various underlying services. Because of that, it is well worth the time it takes to download and install, if only to keep your iPhone safe.
