Apple Kicks Off 2026 With An Updated AirTag

The new upgrades to the second-generation AirTag have made it easier to locate due to a longer Bluetooth range and additional features.

Apple has finally kicked off 2026 by introducing the second-generation AirTag. It has been nearly five years since the original trackers first arrived on the scene, and while the design remains pretty much identical to the one we know, there are some pretty big upgrades internally.

The big news here is the inclusion of Apple’s second-gen Ultra Wideband chip. It is the same tech tucked inside the iPhone 17 and the latest Apple Watches, and it basically supercharges the Precision Finding feature. You can now get directions to your lost gear from 50% further away than before, which should save you some aimless wandering around the house.

If you are wearing an Apple Watch Series 9 or an Ultra 2 (or anything newer), you can now use that Precision Finding tech right from your wrist. Apple has also tweaked the Bluetooth chip for better range and swapped in a speaker that is 50% louder, making it much easier to hear when it is buried under something. Thankfully, they have stuck with the user-replaceable CR2032 coin batteries, so there is no need to worry about the battery life becoming a permanent problem.

The new AirTag will cost you RM129 for a single tracker or RM429 if you want to grab a four-pack. You can still get them personalised with free engraving through the Apple Store, though it is worth noting that preorders haven’t quite gone live on the Apple Malaysia site just yet.
