Word on the street is that Apple is finally giving the selfie camera a decent bump in megapixels for the iPhone 18 line-up expected next year.
According to a report from JP Morgan, spotted by MacRumors, we’re looking at a jump from the current 18MP sensor in the iPhone 17 models to a much sharper 24MP.
This upgrade would apply to the main contenders in the range, meaning the standard iPhone 18, the iPhone 18 Pro, the iPhone 18 Pro Max, the rumoured iPhone Air 2, and even Apple’s first foldable iPhone. For the selfie-obsessed, this should translate into noticeably crisper photos with better detail and more accuracy for those portrait mode shots.
It’s not all good news for every model, mind you. The report suggests the more budget-friendly options, the iPhone 17e and its successor the iPhone 18e, will be left behind, sticking with the older 12MP sensor for their front-facing cameras.
In other news, it seems Apple’s product launch schedule is in for a shake-up. Starting in 2026, the company is apparently planning to split its iPhone releases across two seasons. The second half of the year would see the launch of the premium models, including the second-generation iPhone Air, the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, and that foldable device. Meanwhile, those waiting for the standard iPhone 18 and the budget iPhone 18e would have to hold on until the spring of 2027.
