Apple is reportedly working on a new, more affordable MacBook that would use a chip originally designed for the iPhone.
Supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says the company is planning a 13-inch laptop powered by the A18 Pro chip—the same one found in the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max.
While the A18 Pro isn’t as powerful as Apple’s M4 chip, it’s still plenty capable. The laptop is expected to launch sometime between late 2025 and early 2026, marking Apple’s first Mac to run on an A-series chip.
The device is also rumored to come in multiple colours, including silver, blue, pink, and yellow. Kuo estimates Apple aims to sell between 5 and 7 million units in 2026. Pricing details aren’t clear yet, but it’s likely positioned as an entry-level option, possibly cheaper than the MacBook Air.
