One of Apple’s biggest iPhone manufacturers, Tata Electronics, recently got hacked, and their data has ended up posted all over the dark web.
Tata is a pretty big deal in the supply chain, handling both component manufacturing and assembly over in India. Right now, they are right in the middle of manufacturing the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max models set for launch this September.
According to Reuters, quite a few of the leaked files were slapped with Apple confidential watermarks and featured internal Apple code-names that match up perfectly with the iPhone 18 Pro generation.
There are photographs and videos showing iPhones undergoing drop tests at one of Tata’s plants, with timestamps pointing to early 2026. On top of the physical testing photos, the leaked files dive deep into the technical nitty-gritty, exposing details about the chips on the main circuit board, plus specific elements of the battery and camera setups.
Perhaps the biggest headache for Apple, though, is that the leak lays bare exactly which companies are producing specific components for the iPhone 18 Pro models. Apple famously guards its supply chain like a state secret and keeps its public database of suppliers incredibly vague, so having this vendor map dumped online is a massive breach of their usual operational secrecy.
