Apple is gearing up to announce a new app focused on video games for the iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple TV at its Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) happening on 9 to 13 June.
According to Bloomberg, the app will act as a central hub for launching games you’ve installed across your devices, along with features like achievements and leaderboards. It’s expected to launch alongside the next version of iOS this September.
The new app will reportedly replace Apple’s Game Center and include editorial content while also giving users access to games available on the App Store.
In a related development, Apple recently acquired its first gaming studio, RAC7, the small team behind Sneaky Sasquatch—one of the first games released on Apple Arcade. According to Digital Trends, RAC7 won’t be merging with other teams at Apple but will continue operating independently as its own game studio.
When it comes to gaming, Apple isn’t exactly the top pick—especially Macs, which still can’t compete with Windows PCs in terms of performance and game selection.
The new gaming app might make playing on Apple devices a bit smoother, but let’s be real: serious gamers aren’t ditching their Windows rigs or Steam Decks anytime soon.
