Assassin’s Creed Shadows PC Requirements Revealed

This game will support ray tracing; even GPUs with no ray tracing hardware will get software-based ray tracing.

Ubisoft’s upcoming Assassin’s Creed Shadows is scheduled for release on 20 March 2025. Set in feudal Japan, the game features two playable protagonists: Naoe, a skilled shinobi Assassin, and Yasuke, a formidable African samurai.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows will include ray tracing, aligning with the graphical standards of modern AAA titles. Ubisoft has confirmed support for real-time global illumination and reflections, enhancing the game’s visual fidelity.

Here are the PC requirements to run the game:

Selective, Standard, and Extended Ray Tracing explained

Selective: This mode only uses ray tracing in the Hideout section of the game due to its extensive player customisation options. Ubisoft said traditional pre-calculated global illumination isn’t feasible, so a real-time ray tracing approach is required.

Standard: This mode uses real-time global illumination.

Extended: This mode uses both real-time global illumination and reflections.

Interestingly, even GPUs lacking dedicated ray tracing hardware, such as the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 and AMD Radeon RX 5700, will benefit from some form of ray tracing support.

Ubisoft said on Reddit that they “have developed our own solution to allow competent, yet older, GPUs to run Assassin’s Creed Shadows. The game will use a proprietary software-based raytracing approach developed specifically for that. This was made to ensure Assassin’s Creed Shadows remains accessible to as many players as possible.”

So, rest assured—if you’re still using an older GPU, you can still enjoy Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Unlike Doom: The Dark Ages, which mandates GPUs with dedicated ray tracing hardware.
