Big Changes Ahead: Apple’s Major Software Updates For iPhone, iPad, And Mac

iOS 19, iPadOS 19, and macOS 16 will bring major changes to icons, menus, apps, windows, and the overall system design.

Apple is reportedly gearing up for a massive redesign of iOS, iPadOS, and macOS systems.

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the upcoming releases of iOS 19, iPadOS 19 (codenamed Luck), and macOS 16 (codenamed Cheer) will mark one of the most significant software overhauls in Apple’s history.

Apple is expected to debut the new OSs at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June 2025, with a public release following in the Fall (September – November).

Gurman said the goal of these updates is to create a more consistent user experience across iPhones, iPads, and Macs, unifying their design and functionality.

The redesign will reportedly draw inspiration from the Apple Vision Pro’s visionOS, bringing fresh design elements to icons, menus, apps, windows, and the overall system interface.

Gurman also notes that iOS 19 will be the most dramatic update to Apple’s mobile OS since iOS 7 in 2013, while macOS 16 will represent the biggest change for Macs since the Big Sur update in 2020. These updates aim to modernise and harmonise the look and feel of Apple’s ecosystem.
