Bluetooth 6.0: What You Need To Know About The New Bluetooth Standard

The Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG), the organisation responsible for developing Bluetooth standards, has unveiled the exciting new features of Bluetooth 6.0.

This latest version promises to revolutionise wireless technology with several groundbreaking innovations.

One of the standout features of Bluetooth 6.0 is the introduction of “Channel Sounding.” This technology allows for precise measurement of the distance between two connected devices, accurate to the nearest centimetre.

This capability opens up a myriad of practical applications, from locating lost devices to enhancing security measures.

With its advanced distance measurement, Bluetooth 6.0 positions itself as a strong competitor to Ultra WideBand (UWB) technology, which is used in devices like Apple’s AirTag. The ability to accurately locate devices makes Bluetooth 6.0 a versatile tool for various applications.

The potential uses for Bluetooth 6.0 are vast. For instance, digital keys for cars or hotel rooms could be programmed to only function within a specific range, enhancing security.

Similarly, loudspeakers could be set to stop working when moved beyond a certain distance, and desktop peripherals like mice and keyboards could be configured to operate only when near a designated computer.

Beyond these innovative features, Bluetooth 6.0 also promises improved performance. By sending data in smaller packets, it achieves lower latency, resulting in better responsiveness. This enhancement is expected to provide more stable audio and video streaming experiences.
