Garmin Fenix 8 Pro MicroLED: World’s First Smartwatch With The Revolutionary Display

The screen goes up to 4,500 nits, but there's a big downside to it.

Garmin has just gone and dropped the world’s first smartwatch with a MicroLED display. This isn’t just a small step; it’s a massive leap in brightness, supposedly leaving every other smartwatch screen on the market in the shade.

The big claim is that the Fenix 8 Pro’s new display can hit a blinding 4,500 nits. On top of that, its MicroLED tech can dim each pixel individually for better control. But here’s the catch – all that fancy lighting comes with a pretty hefty trade-off on battery life.

Garmin says you’ll get about four days with the always-on display active. That’s not terrible, until you compare it to the AMOLED version of the same watch, which manages a whopping 15 days between charges.

It’s also packing some serious connectivity, with a built-in LTE modem and satellite SOS features through Garmin’s inReach subscription. This means you can make and take calls or messages directly from your wrist using the Garmin Messenger app, which is proper handy for adventures off the beaten track.

Now, for the bit that’ll make your wallet wince. If you want this new MicroLED tech, you’re looking at the 51mm case size only, it’s coming next month and it’ll set you back a cool RM8,479!
