Last month, Huawei’s consumer business division CEO, Richard Yu, was seen with it, and now the company has officially launched the world’s first smartphone featuring a tri-fold screen.
The Huawei Mate XT Ultimate features a 6.4-inch FHD+ display when folded. Upon unfolding halfway, it reveals a 7.9-inch 2K screen, and when fully extended, it becomes a 10.2-inch tablet boasting a 3K resolution. Remarkably, it measures just 3.6mm in thickness when fully opened.
This tri-folding smartphone features an LTPO OLED screen with 1440 Hz high-frequency PWM dimming and a maximum touch sampling rate of 240Hz.
The screen is constructed from multi-directional bending flexible materials, which offer a 25% increase in bend resistance compared to conventional foldable screens.
According to the company, the inner fold is designed to resist compression, while the outer fold is built to withstand tension.
The chipset powering this phone is not revealed, but it’s expected to use Kirin 9000 chip with 16GB RAM and up to 1TB storage.
Additionally, it boasts XMAGE imaging with a 50MP 1/1.56″ main camera featuring a variable aperture from f/1.4 to f/4.0, alongside a 12MP ultrawide camera and a 12MP 5.5x periscope telephoto rear camera. An 8MP selfie camera is located on the inside.
The device is equipped with a 5600mAh battery, claimed by Huawei to be the world’s thinnest silicon carbon large-capacity battery, measuring just 1.9mm in thickness. It supports 66W wired and 50W wireless fast charging capabilities.
The Huawei Mate XT Ultimate Design comes in Black and Red colours and is priced at CNY19,999 for the 16GB+256GB model (~RM12,186), CNY21,999 (~RM13,404) for the 16GB+512GB version and the top-end 16GB+1TB version costs CNY23,999 (~RM14,623).
It’s already available to order and will go on sale in China starting from 20 September, but Huawei didn’t announce anything regarding global availability.
