Huawei’s First Tri-Folding Phone, Mate XT Ultimate, Is Going Global

The world's first tri-folding phone will launch globally in Q1 2025.

Huawei introduced its first tri-fold Mate XT Ultimate in China earlier this month, and for those curious about its availability beyond the Chinese market, the wait is over.

GSMArena reported that the foldable phone will launch globally in Q1 2025. With a starting price of CNY19,999 for the 16GB+256GB model (~RM11,960), this is the most expensive foldable on the market right now.

The Huawei Mate XT Ultimate features a 6.4-inch FHD+ display when folded. Upon unfolding halfway, it reveals a 7.9-inch 2K screen, and when fully extended, it becomes a 10.2-inch tablet boasting a 3K resolution. Remarkably, it measures just 3.6mm in thickness when fully opened.

This tri-folding smartphone features an LTPO OLED screen with 1440 Hz high-frequency PWM dimming and a maximum touch sampling rate of 240Hz.

The screen is constructed from multi-directional bending flexible materials, which offer a 25% increase in bend resistance compared to conventional foldable screens.

Additionally, it boasts XMAGE imaging with a 50MP 1/1.56″ main camera featuring a variable aperture from f/1.4 to f/4.0, alongside a 12MP ultrawide camera and a 12MP 5.5x periscope telephoto rear camera. An 8MP selfie camera is located on the inside.

The device is equipped with a 5600mAh battery, claimed by Huawei to be the world’s thinnest silicon carbon large-capacity battery, measuring just 1.9mm in thickness. It supports 66W wired and 50W wireless fast charging capabilities.
