Apple last refreshed the iPad mini back in October 2024, and to be honest, it was already well past time for a proper upgrade.
Word on the street is that a batch of leaks has landed for the next iPad Mini, and it looks like Apple’s compact tablet is in line for some big upgrades.
According to MacRumors, the iPad mini 8 is gearing up for a brand new OLED display. The catch, however, is that the refresh rate looks set to remain locked at a modest 60Hz. That is definitely a bit of a letdown considering 60Hz should be phased out a long time ago and a modern chip is more than powerful enough to handle a 120Hz refresh rate.
On the hardware front, we can expect the front-facing camera to shift over to a landscape orientation, making video calls far more natural. Under the hood, it is tipped to run on Apple’s upcoming A20 Pro silicon, which is the very same chip expected to power the iPhone 18 Pro lineup.
Adding to the list of changes, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that the new model will gain proper water resistance alongside a newvibration-based speaker system. If all these rumours hold true, we should see the new tablet officially break cover around October 2026.
