Microsoft Unveils Surface Laptop Ultra With Nvidia RTX Spark Chip

This is Microsoft's answer to MacBook Pro, and it even comes with a feature similar to Apple's high-end laptop.

Microsoft has just announced the Surface Laptop Ultra, and it is the very first Surface to pack Nvidia’s new RTX Spark system-on-a-chip (SoC).

On the front, you get a bright 15-inch mini-LED display that can hit up to 2,000 nits, with 3:2 aspect ratio, that supports Dolby Vision IQ and 100% DCI-P3 colour accuracy.

Below the screen sits a massive haptic trackpad and despite all this hardware, the whole machine stays around 2kg and measures less than 18mm thick. Microsoft reckons it delivers two and a half times the thermal capacity of the older 15-inch model, along with proper all-day battery life.

This is clearly aimed straight at the MacBook Pro, especially when you look at the port selection. You get a USB-A port, three USB-C ports, a HDMI port, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a full-sized SD card reader. There is even a magnetic charging feature that attaches to a standard USB-C port, which is kind of similar to Apple’s MagSafe.

Under the laptop’s chassis, it runs on Nvidia’s new Arm-based SoC processor, offering graphics performance on par with a GeForce RTX 5070. To prove its gaming credentials, Microsoft demoed Gears of War: E-Day running on the device and confirmed Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is coming later this year, complete with support for ray tracing, DLSS Super Resolution, DLSS Frame Generation, and Nvidia Reflex.

That new chip houses 20 CPU cores and supports up to 128GB of unified memory. Even with all that power, the RTX Spark is designed to be surprisingly efficient, drawing no more than 80W.

Prices start at USD2,599 (~RM10,632), with the official launch set for 16 October 2026 in select regions. We are still waiting to hear whether Microsoft plans to bring it to Malaysia.
