Starting 10 October 2024, the Road Transport Department (JPJ) will mandate the use of the MyDigital ID single sign-on (SSO) system for Malaysians to access road tax and driving license information via the MyJPJ app.
Users are advised to register with MyDigital ID prior to this date to avoid login issues, as per the app’s recent update notice, according to Malay Mail.
Although the app is not the sole method for checking driving license and road tax details, it has become a popular digital means, especially since the Transport Ministry abolished the display of road tax stickers on vehicles.
While the JPJ didn’t say that MyDigital ID will be the exclusive login method, the usage of JPJeID for app sign-in will be reduced.
JPJeID will remain operational but will be restricted to the JPJ’s public portal and kiosks, as mentioned in the MyDigital ID FAQ.
This initiative positions JPJ as the first agency to implement MyDigital ID as a mandatory service access requirement. Previously, the Health Ministry introduced the digital ID for the MySejahtera app but did not make it obligatory.
MyDigital ID Sdn Bhd, a Mimos Berhad subsidiary under the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, manages the digital ID platform exclusively for Malaysian citizens.
You can register MyDigital ID via the MyDigital ID app that is available on the Google Play Store, Apple App Store, or Huawei AppGallery.
