New Clue Suggests Spotify Lossless Audio Is Imminent

The lossless audio option support up to 24-bit/44.1kHz audio in FLAC format.

Looks like Spotify is gearing up to roll out lossless audio soon.

The clues come from Spicetify, a command-line tool for the desktop Spotify client, which recently shared some screenshots on X (formerly Twitter). These images, pulled from the latest v1.2.66 update, hint at the new feature.

Right now, the Audio quality settings only offer options from Low to Very High, but it seems a Lossless tier is on the way. This upgrade will support up to 24-bit/44.1kHz audio in FLAC format.

But that’s not all—Spotify might also be working on some other audio enhancements. The update references a feature that, when used with compatible headphones, promises “cleaner, more natural sound.” There’s also a mention of spatial audio buried in the code, though no details were given.

Spotify first teased its lossless HiFi tier way back in early 2021. At the time, they didn’t give a specific release date, only saying that it will be available in select markets in 2021, but it was clear the feature was close and would likely cost more than the standard Premium subscription. Why it’s taken this long to arrive is still a mystery.
