Apple is reportedly preparing to refresh its iPad lineup with OLED displays for both the iPad mini and the iPad Air in the coming months.
According to Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, an OLED-equipped iPad mini could make its debut as “early as this fall”, with a release expected by October and it will be pricier. However, despite the screen technology upgrade, rumour has it that the compact tablet will lack ProMotion technology, keeping it locked to a standard 60Hz refresh rate.
Alongside the mini, Apple is also developing a new iPad Air featuring an OLED panel to elevate its mid-range offering. Conversely, the standard entry-level iPad will retain its LCD panel for the foreseeable future, a move intended to keep production costs down and maintain an accessible entry price point.
This base model is slated for release in the first quarter of next year, landing somewhere between January and March.
For the budget-friendly iPad, the primary enhancements will focus on internal hardware rather than a design overhaul. Buyers should not expect a redesigned chassis, as the focus remains squarely on the chip. The upcoming base model is expected to house either an A18 or A19 processor, paired alongside 8GB of memory to boost performance and modern software capabilities.
