Word on the street is that Intel might be stepping back from releasing a new discrete graphics card (GPU) for a bit.
According to the leaker Jaykihn, the company actually cancelled its plans for an Arc Xe3P-based gaming GPU quite some time ago. This means that once the current Battlemage B580 has had its run, we likely won’t see a direct successor based on the newer Celestial architecture hitting shop shelves as a standalone card.
It sounds like a bit of a blow for anyone hoping for more competition in the gaming GPU market, but it is not exactly the end of the road for the Arc brand. Intel seems to be shifting its focus away from dedicated cards for now to concentrate on integrated graphics instead.
We are already seeing the Xe3-based chips making an appearance within the Panther Lake processor series, so the technology is definitely still being developed, just in a mobile processor form.
Looking further ahead, there is still a glimmer of hope for fans of Intel hardware. There are whispers that the team might make a proper comeback to the discrete market in 2028 with their Xe4 architecture, codenamed Druid.
For now, though, it looks like Intel is playing the long game and prioritising their integrated graphics programmes over the enthusiast gaming card space. Of course, this is just a rumour from a single source, so take this news with a grain of salt until we hear it from Intel.
