It has been over a year since the CMF Phone 2 Pro hit the shelves last April, and anyone hoping for a shiny new successor is going to be left waiting.
Nothing co-founder Akis Evangelidis recently revealed that we won’t be seeing a new CMF phone launch this year, and it all boils down to skyrocketing memory prices.
If you haven’t been tracking the component market lately, tech giants and AI companies are currently hogging most of the global memory supply. This has triggered massive worldwide shortages for consumer tech, driving manufacturing costs through the roof.
Evangelidis explained that the company simply cannot build a new phone that feels like a genuine step forward at a price point that makes sense for the budget-friendly CMF brand. Rather than compromising on quality or sticking customers with a hefty price tag, they are choosing to pause and pivot for now.
It is not all bad news for fans of the brand, though. While a new phone is off the table for this year, Evangelidis promised that several new products are on the horizon, including some entries into entirely new product categories.
On top of that, he teased that a new Nothing phone is coming soon, leaving me wondering if the Nothing Phone (4) is just around the corner.
