Nothing has finally let the cat out of the bag regarding how their next mid-range handset, the Phone (4a), is actually going to look.
We aren’t due for the official reveal until 5 March, but the London-based company couldn’t help themselves and shared a proper clear photo of the back of the phone on social media. Over on X, they are promising a mid-range device that is “Built different,” and looking at the design, they might be onto something.
While the camera module keeps that familiar central pill shape of the Phone (3a), the Glyph lighting system has been given a massive makeover. Nothing recently shared a bit of a deep dive into this new Glyph Bar concept. Instead of the three separate LEDs we saw on the (3a), this time we are looking at a vertical bar made up of six square modules tucked to the right of the camera.
Each of those squares contains nine mini-LEDs that can be controlled individually. Even though these are supposedly 40% brighter than the ones on the Phone (3a), the brand reckons the whole effect is actually less distracting.
They are aiming for a look that feels more natural and neutral without any of the light bleeding through where it shouldn’t. Plus, that little red square they usually use as a design accent has been turned into a dedicated recording light. If you want to dig into the rumoured specs, you can have a look at our previous write-up about it.
