The OnePlus 13R is set to make its global debut on 7 January 2025, together with the OnePlus 13.
While initial rumours suggested that the 13R would simply be a rebranded version of the OnePlus Ace 5, which recently launched in China, new information reveals that the 13R will feature several notable differences.
One of the key upgrades in the OnePlus 13R is its enhanced camera setup. Unlike the Ace 5, the 13R is rumored to include a 2x telephoto camera, elevating its photographic capabilities.
The device is expected to sport a 50MP main camera featuring Sony’s Lytia LYT-700 sensor, an 8MP ultrawide lens, and a 50MP telephoto lens with 2x optical zoom using Samsung’s ISOCELL JN5 sensor. For selfies, the phone will feature a 16MP front-facing camera.
In contrast, the Ace 5 uses a similar camera configuration but replaces the telephoto lens with a 2MP macro sensor, which is rather useless.
However, this upgrade does come with a trade-off. The OnePlus 13R will reportedly have a slightly smaller battery capacity at 6,000mAh compared to the Ace 5’s 6,415mAh. This adjustment is likely to accommodate the additional hardware required for the telephoto camera.
With these updates, the OnePlus 13R positions itself as a more robust option for international markets, offering a superior camera setup at the expense of marginally reduced battery capacity.
