Realme Note 80: Is This The Toughest Budget Smartphone For Under RM400?

This is a 4G-only phone that packs a massive 6,300mAh battery and is built to withstand some pretty serious drops.

Realme has just dropped a new entry-level phone, the Note 80, aimed at anyone who needs a reliable device for the basics without spending a fortune.

Up front, you get a 6.74-inch LCD screen that keeps things smooth with a 90Hz refresh rate. While the HD+ resolution might not win any awards for sharpness, it hits a decent 563 nits of brightness when you are out in the sun.

Under the hood, the phone is powered by a Unisoc T7250 chipset paired with a Mali G57 GPU. You are looking at up to 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage, which should be plenty for basic apps, though you can always pop in a microSD card if you need more room for photos and files.

The camera setup is pretty minimalist, featuring a single 8MP lens on the back for quick snaps and a 5MP selfie shooter tucked away in a waterdrop notch.

This phone has a MIL-STD-810H certification, meaning it is built to survive more than just a light tumble. Between the reinforced corners, internal cushioning, and toughened glass, the company claims it is 300% more resistant to bending than before.

Realme claims it can apparently survive a fall from as high as 1.8 metres, and it has been tested to withstand being dropped from pocket height about 150 times without giving up the ghost. On top of the physical toughness, it carries an IP54 rating, so it should handle a bit of dust or a surprise rain shower without any drama.

The real standout here is the massive 6,300mAh battery. It supports 15W charging, so it might take a little while to top up, but it should easily last you through a heavy day of use. You also get a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, a 3.5mm headphone jack (a rarity nowadays), and support for dual SIM 4G.
