For the second year running, Russian tech YouTuber Wylsacom has managed to get his hands on an unannounced Apple product, this time giving the world a sneak peek at the upcoming M5 iPad Pro well before its official launch .
This isn’t the first time this particular leaker has pulled off this trick; the same channel leaked the M4 MacBook Pro last October, which turned out to be the real deal, lending a fair bit of credibility to this new reveal .
So, what did the video show? The unboxing featured a 13-inch iPad Pro in a Space Black finish with 256GB of storage . To the naked eye, the new model looks nearly identical to the current M4 version, keeping the same ultra-thin design . One subtle change noted was the removal of the “iPad Pro” text from the back of the device, leaving a cleaner look .
The real meat of the leak, however, was in the performance benchmarks. The YouTuber ran a Geekbench 6 test, showing the M5 chip delivering some solid gains over the M4 . The single-core score jumped to 4,133 (up from around 3,748), and the multi-core score hit 15,437 (up from 13,324) . That works out to roughly a 10-12% boost in single-core speed and a more substantial 15-16% improvement in multi-core performance .
The graphics performance saw an even more impressive leap. The Metal score for the GPU came in at a whopping 74,568, which is up to 36% increase over the M4’s score of 55,702 . For creatives and gamers, that’s a pretty significant generational upgrade.
Another interesting tidbit from the leak concerns memory. The 256GB model shown in the video was listed as having 12GB of RAM, a welcome step up from the 8GB found in the equivalent M4 model . This could signal that Apple is bumping up the base memory configuration across the board .
As for when you’ll be able to buy one officially, the rumour mill suggests an announcement is on the cards for October . It seems we won’t have to wait much longer to see if this early look was spot on.
