PlayStation has just announced its latest bit of kit, and it’s not a console, but a gaming monitor.
On paper, the specs look rather decent for a 27-inch screen. We’re talking a QHD (1440p) resolution and a 240Hz refresh rate, complete with support for HDR and variable refresh rate to keep things looking smooth and screen tearing-free. There is a bit of a catch for the PS5 purists, though. When you’re plugged into the console, that refresh rate gets capped at 120Hz, which is still plenty fluid, but not quite what the hardware can fully deliver.

In a rather nifty bit of design, they’ve included a charging hook that folds down from the back. It’s a simple but clever solution for parking your DualSense controller to top up its battery between sessions.
Now, being a monitor, you can of course plug your PC into it as well. But let’s be honest, the PC monitor space is absolutely heaving with options at every price point. What might make this one stand out for PlayStation fans is its built-in charging dock. Under the hood, it seems to be using a standard IPS panel, so it’s probably not going to compete with the eye-watering contrast of the more premium OLED or Mini LED screens you can find elsewhere.

For connectivity, the PlayStation gaming monitor comes with two HDMI 2.1 ports, a DisplayPort 1.4, two USB-A ports, and a USB-C port for PlayStation Link devices. This means you can easily connect PS Link accessories like earbuds, headphones, and speakers.
If you fancy one, Sony plans to release it in the US and Japan sometime next year. The one crucial detail they’re keeping quiet about for now is the price.
