Ultra Low-Latency & Lossless Audio Coming To AirPods Max In April

Unfortunately, this update is only for the USB-C model and not the Lightning model.

Apple’s dropping a big update for AirPods Max in April with iOS 18.4, iPadOS 18.4, and macOS Sequoia 15.4—lossless and ultra-low latency audio are finally coming!

The catch? It’s only for the USB-C version of the AirPods Max, and it’s a free firmware update. The older Lightning model misses out because it can’t handle lossless audio over a wired connection.

With the new update, Apple says the AirPods Max will get way better for music production, gaming, and live streaming thanks to that ultra-low latency mode.

Apple’s also selling a new USB-C to 3.5mm audio cable for RM219. Handy for plugging your AirPods Max into plane seats or connecting your iPhone/iPad to speakers or car stereos with a headphone jack.
